BCL Lufthansa Cup Final – GAS VS FC Planet

Saturday 22nd April 2017 will live long in the memory of the GAS faithful. Here is why…

It was cup final day. The Casuals League had pulled out all the stops with getting a fine venue in Siam’s National Stadium, a perfect arena for without doubt the biggest game of the season for both teams. Pre game brunch was had at the Siam@Siam Design Hotel Bangkok next to MBK where the hosts kindly laid on fresh fruit and pasta, drinks and assisted with taking pre-game photographs.

GAS VS Flann O Brien’s – 25th March 2017

So, here it is, the last game of the season. Swealtering conditions, a less than perfect pitch and a stripped back squad saw GAS take on Flann O Briens formally known as Londoner FC in the final game of the season.

A picture perfect start saw GAS take the lead through what is without question the fastest goal in Bangkok Casuals’ history. Dom playing a ball out wide to Philip who whipped in an audacious cross for Thomas to raise like the horny little salmon he is, notching his first of the game. Great start. The game could’ve easily been 2-3 maybe even 4 goals to the good in the first 15 minutes with GAS looking to end in style. No longer than 10 minutes into the game saw Kalle and Ronny come off injured making an already slim squad, slimmer. Despite going into battle with half an army the second goal finally came when again Philip’s deflected cross landed to Thomas who once again showed the predatory instincts to smash home. Buying balls to play with is not the only he’s good at, evidently. Continue reading

GAS VS Sportsman 18th March2017

GAS VS Sportsman this past Saturday was the second to last game of the 2016/2017 season. With GAS still chasing the hope of the Division 1 title it was imperative we took 3 points with the hope that Red Star could manage to take points from FC Planet.

The game was a scrappy one. GAS started well and created 1 or 2 chances but couldn’t find the break through. That was until Ronnie a.k.a. Philip Lahm stepped up to take a free kick from 35 yards out, thundering in his attempt into the top corner. Keeper no chance. Despite forgetting his shoes and only realising a week later, he clearly didn’t forget how to strike a dead ball. A good goal from one GAS’ men of the season so far. Continue reading

BCL Cup Semi Final – GAS VS Celtic Round 3

Saturday 11th March the stage is set for the third game of the season against Siam Celtic this time in the BCL Cup Semi Final.

This game wasn’t for the sexy football fans – it was a game that required patience, work rate, grit and desire to get to the final which GAS clearly had the upper hand on throughout. In less than 10 minutes GAS were 2-0 to the good through Freeboy and Dominik. Dominik scoring yet another freekick  and Freeboy creating his goal from almost nothing, skipping around the keeper and slotting past the man on the line. Superb instinct. A very smart goal. GAS BKK VS GAS HK – 4th March 2017

This past Saturday GAS BKK took on the travelling GAS HK in a game whereby the conditions were flipped in the sense of players being in terrible shape and the pitch in perfect condition!

Having been advised that GAS HK were the reigning champions of the HK amateur football league GAS BKK were heading into this game somewhat nervily, with a bare bones team including two late drop outs totalling 12 players. Never ideal in 35 degrees heat but GAS BKK took care of business nonetheless.

With the majority of GAS HK looking like they’d not slept all week and smelling like they had drank soi 11 dry the night before, GAS BKK came out the traps flying and themselves 2-0 in under 10 minutes through the two center midfielders Dom and Craig. GAS HK clearly not expecting such a strong start, they began to have not so quiet, nor subtle words with one another on the pitch and attempted to actually get out of their mental bed. GAS VS Red Star BCL Cup quarter final

Built up as arguably the biggest game of the season GAS took on Red Star in the most anticipated of the four BCL Cup quarter final games and boy, it did not disappoint!

Despite the field conditions being below par GAS were phenomenal from the first whistle. Opting to play a 4-4-1-1 the pressure piled onto Star from the beginning was immense. GAS clearly meant business. Freeboy and Tommy both having chances to open the scoring within the first 5 minutes though somehow, Star managing to thwart their efforts. IMG-20170225-WA0018Not long after saw the unfortunate removal of Tommy after a nasty clash with Star’s number five leaving one of GAS’ key men in a pool of blood. This lead to a slight, pre-mature reshuffle of GAS’ midfield though seemingly provided extra incentive for them to go on and win the game. Chance after chance was created by GAS – Julian working hard on the wing, Freeboy and Fede pressing well from the front with Craig and Dom working well in the middle. It was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken as Star couldn’t seem to get out of their own half. Craig came extremely close from the edge of the box pulling his shot agonizingly wide following a smart pass from Coco, though shortly after GAS finally found a way through the stubborn defence after some superb work from Fede set up Dom who’s thunderous shot found, up until that point, the elusive back of the net! An extremely well worked goal from the youthful pair.

9 goals against JAS!

On an increasingly familiar hot afternoon, GAS got back to league action against the JAS on an unfamiliar Sunday afternoon over on pitch 2 at Pattana, sitting pretty at the top of the pile this was a game that GAS had to win to keep their title hunt going.IMG-20170220-WA0001

In a nice change to proceeding GAS got off to a very lively start with several attempts from horny salmon Federico but a combination of goalkeeping and woodwork kept the Argentinian at bay. With the pressure continuing to mount on JAS, GAS finally got the breakthrough their early pressure deserved. Unsurprisingly this came from the bright pink boots of in-form Freeboy, burying a nice right footed shot into the top right roof of the net from the edge of the box. GAS didn’t take their foot off the gas (no pun intended) for the rest of the half and deservedly doubled their lead when the giant amoung the elves, CT5 (Carl Turner) bundled in from an excellent corner by Josep to make it 2-0 at half time… “A quite magnificent header” was the cry from the sidelines (apparently) Continue reading
