First GAS Vets tournament this year – 14th place

First tournament for the Vets this year, as before the squad was always not enough due to travelling or other “important” ??!! assignments of the different players. At this point the coach would like to see here some improvement over the next weeks especially looking for the upcoming Easter tournament and especially do not like to see the people drop out on Sunday morning. Coming back to the tournament:
The theme of the tournament for us was – to say goodbye to Timo – farewell my friend – good luck in Paderborn, where everything was developed and invented – from all the GAS Family.
The day started with view phone calls, to wake people up, to ask others to help out, as people dropped out in the morning – to make sure we had a good squad on the pitch. It was another very hot day in Bangkok and 16 teams have confirmed for the weekend, so we played in groups of 4 teams before the split into bowl and cup competition. In our group we had BU Japan, Patana Teachers and Yingcharong Standby.
For GAS we had: Benni (in goal), Timo (first and last Vest tournament where he could play officially as 35 years old), Matze, Gerd, Huub, Tobi, Hasi (good morning my friend), Kelly, Wolfgang and later joined Hartwig and Michel
Against BU Japan we could keep a 0:0 until the last minute, where we tired and not defending well, to go 1:0 down. Even Benni our goalkeeper today could not avoid this. Playing out of a solid defence nearly worked out.
Second game was against the Patana Teachers and we went down again by 0:1, before Timo (yes) and Matze scored for the 2:1 victory. Sexy football guys.
Last game in the group phase against Yingcharong, a Thai team, would not be easy and we knew, that if we want to have a chance for the cup competition we needed to win. The game started funny – as we could see that they wanted to shot directly on our goal for kick off. Benni asked us to go away to let them the free shot – what they did and they scored!!!! But the team could convince the referee, that it was not a goal and the ball only came into the net from the backsite…. – this is ‘Thailand my friends and maybe also was the bonus of Timo this day. We achieved a 1:1 draw with a nice goal of “Bulldozer” Gerd.
So with 4 points and a goal difference of 3:3 we came in 3rd in the group (we had tournament, where we went with these results to the cup competition) unlucky.
Now knock out phase and the first game against Le Coc presidents we lost 1:0. Against JFC Japan we won by a nice goal of Michel 1:0 and in the last game of the day, for the 13th place we played the Patana teachers again. After normal time the result was 1:1 (goal again by Michel) – Penalty shoot out !!! sudden death
Benni in goal and for GAS first Timo: goal, second Michel: goal, third Kelly: goal and same for our opponents as Benni could not save one. Fourth Wolfgang: goooaaalll – ups no, he missed (again for those who remember the last Easter tournament, – so we came in 14th this time and had a nice day of football again and afterwards some beers together to say again farewell to Timo.

Hi Timo, whish you all the best back in the homeland. In regards of the missed penalty, I saw in your eyes the Singha signs and thought it’s better to miss than to stay another hour
in the heat. By the way, between last Eastern tournament and Sunday I have scored several penalties. Why you only remember my blackouts ?? Good to have friends. Anyway another soccer day with lots of fun.
