IMG_1Believe it or not, eleven players confirmed…and showed up! All of them, no exceptions! Maybe the new rule achieves the desired goal. Anyway, thanks to all players! Makes it easier for all of us to plan and organize tournaments day. So, why do we complain about our really hard group, when we had such a great team? Better than the previous first games we did it right this time and beat the FC Penguins from Japan 1:0 by a goal from Faxe, who by the way showed an outstanding performance throughout the whole tournament and scored a triple! Congrats to him and please do it again!

Second game the Refugees, who else…one might really wonder why we are always in the same group with them? We definitely ruled the game, even got a penalty, but luck was not on our side and we ended up with a quite sad defeat, 0:1.Sure not justified, but that is football… No problem ,we thought, next game against the Bangkok Immigrants, who usually fight for the last places. After we heard that they changed their complete team into a younger (let’s say, very young…) Team and beat all other teams, even the favorites Refugees went down 0:3, we showed some neccessary respect.

With a solid defense, led by Gerd, and our Spanish midfield consisting of the “Nacho-brothers” (Nacho and Louis) and Ivan,we ruled this game as well and  Faxe as the coldblooded goalgetter made his second goal this day . Unfortunately we caught an accidental goal from them, but the chances were on our side. At least we had one point and we could go relaxed into our last group game against a green Japanese team, no clue about the name…

This game we won also 1:0 , the conditions to play were quite bad because of the muddy ground which led us to the famous/infamous sliding. Penalty for our opponents, ridiculous as usual. But: Also as usual Michael held the penalty; call it compensatory justice… now we had comfortable 7 points. You think enough? No! That just shows how strong the group was, there were two other teams with even more points than us. We had to play for place 5 to 8 . A big thunderstorm occurred and the Germans, as the only team, refused to enter the pitch , fearing the lightning, so-to-say the big “German Angst”. Are we the only chicken or are we just careful enough? Everyone can decide by themselves.

Nevertheless we waited a couple of minutes more and played then against a grey Japanese team, which we beat again with 1:0 by a goal from Nacho. The following game for place Nr. Five was against the green Japanese team again and now it was very clear that they had no breath left. We hammered them 3:0 by goals from Ivan, Louis and Dirk and they could be happy not to get a fourth or fifth goal.

So we ended up 5th place, silverware once more. The weather was fine again except an unbelievable muddy ground at the pitch as well as on the parking lot, which made it difficult to leave the area. So we decided to stay as long as possible, finish the Kegs and waited for drier ground. The kegs got dry, the ground not…
