GAS played in their new Away kits for the first time.

26th November saw GAS take on the leagues surprise package thus far in the Red Star hoping to avenge our 4-0 drubbing earlier in the season and boy this game did not disappoint!

GAS started the game well with the defence beginning with soaking up the long balls comfortably and the midfield and attackers looking like they were ready to pick up from the emphatic win the previous week. The pressure finally told when Julian smashed home a 20 yard free kick. Vintage. 1-0 GAS.

Shortly after it was 1-1. Less than 10 minutes later Freeboy made it 2-1 GAS with a smart finish. A player who has showed week in week out the hunger and desire needed to lead the line. However, Red Star were not going to lay down easy and before GAS knew it they found themselves not level but, 3-2 down. Huge shock considering the start we made. This was not part of the plan. We had to pull together as a team. Later into the second half Red Star took a 5-3 lead. This evidentially rocked GAS who were not expecting such a turnaround given the previous sturdiness of the team in recent weeks.

However, not to be deterred by the game not going according to plan, GAS persevered and dug deep collectively. 10 minutes from time we pulled a goal back to make it 5-4 setting up a finale of all finale’s. With literally the last kick of the game Julian steps up when it mattered and slotted home with his deadly left peg following a smart pass from new signing Thomas Almond.

A very entertaining game played out by two evenly matched teams both gunning for the Division 1 title.

Following the game GAS enjoyed a stunning BBQ and cold beverage superbly put together by the team and a special shoutout goes to Hartwig, Tan and Ivan for putting that together and of course a big thank you to everyone else involved in making that come together. It was a fantastic way to round off a great afternoon of football. Spirits are high in the GAS camp leading up to the Christmas break so, let’s take that into the massive game VS Flann O Briens on Sunday.
