It was 16:00hrs and yet another hot afternoon in Bangkok. The location: Greenfield – a football pitch that needs some serious attention for it to look anything other than a field of ‘spuds’.

Man of the Match Kalle!
Man of the Match Kalle!

The teams: German All Stars (GAS) vs. Flann O’Brien’s (Formerly known as Londoner) for the first encounter of this season with 3 valuable points at stake. All players arrived on time, which was the perfect approach for such a match ahead. The starting line up consisted of Damian, Ronnie, Carl and Dao in defence with Kalle replacing Damian at right back after it was deemed Damian’s hamstring injury was still giving him problems.  The midfield consisted of Craig, Fede, Dominik and Philip with Thomas and Freeboy leading the attacking line. The bench offered a good amount of possibilities with the likes of Damian, Ivan, Josep, Stuart, Tan and Zac.

The first 10 minutes showed a very aggressive Flann O’Brien’s side focussing on attacking play down their right wing, but covered to perfection by Ronnie. Carl and Dao also played a part in ensuring Flann O’Brien’s weren’t successful in trying to get an early goal. After this short spell, GAS started to build up stronger in the mid section of the field, with Dao stepping slightly up from his last line and Craig allowing the ball to reach to Dome, who started opening the game initially to the right wing where Fede and Freeboy started showing Flann O’Brien that the game was not to be an easy one.
