Sunday 29th January was the day for the final group stage game of the Bangkok Casuals League Lufthansa cup with GAS taking on the newly entered team JAS FC.  Conditions were once again superb and GAS knowing a draw was all that was needed to clinch first place and progress through to the quarters.

The game started fast paced from the perspective of JAS. GAS seemingly struggling with their movement and their ability to move the ball around well, though JAS failed to carve out any clear cut chance. GAS started to feel their way into the game and consequently found themselves 1-0 up through Thomas who showed the instincts to follow up on a long range shot that had landed back to the striker after hitting the crossbar. A well anticipated goal. 1-0 GAS.  Later in the half Tommy had a 30 yard strike also hit the woodwork of which the rebound fell to John in identical fashion though his tame effort went straight into the keepers arms. That should have been 2-0, however…

1-0 HT GAS.

Second half saw more similar ball work from JAS but ultimately their underlying issues of being unable to breakdown the defence were the same until however, they finally found a way through the ever resilient back four. A shoddy clearance from the back line allowed JAS’s left winger to play a smart one-two which was neatly slotted into the bottom corner. 1-1. GAS suddenly stepped up their game and with John looking to make amends for the few chances squandered he smartly slid in MOM and the man in form Julian who expertly dispatched into the bottom right corner. Smart play from the front two. 2-1 GAS. In fairness to JAS they did not lie down, they kept piling on the pressure forcing a smart save from reserve GK Craig as the JAS striker found himself unmarked 4 yards out only for Craig to scramble across his goal and   make the save. As fatigue seemingly started to creep in to both sides the tempo slowed down and GAS were able to see the game out.  FT – 2-1 GAS

A superb group run from the in-form side taking their tally to P3 W3. A phenomenal campaign thus far and long may it continue. Onto Celtic next week in the league!

MOM – Julian
