On an increasingly familiar hot afternoon, GAS got back to league action against the JAS on an unfamiliar Sunday afternoon over on pitch 2 at Pattana, sitting pretty at the top of the pile this was a game that GAS had to win to keep their title hunt going.IMG-20170220-WA0001

In a nice change to proceeding GAS got off to a very lively start with several attempts from horny salmon Federico but a combination of goalkeeping and woodwork kept the Argentinian at bay. With the pressure continuing to mount on JAS, GAS finally got the breakthrough their early pressure deserved. Unsurprisingly this came from the bright pink boots of in-form Freeboy, burying a nice right footed shot into the top right roof of the net from the edge of the box. GAS didn’t take their foot off the gas (no pun intended) for the rest of the half and deservedly doubled their lead when the giant amoung the elves, CT5 (Carl Turner) bundled in from an excellent corner by Josep to make it 2-0 at half time… “A quite magnificent header” was the cry from the sidelines (apparently)HT – ‘More of the same boys’

GAS got the second half underway, looking to improve their goal difference and really put JAS to the (samurai) sword. An excellent passing move from back to front involving new boy Carlos, John, Jan, Federico and eventually the ball fell to CM Tommy to poke the ball home for his first GAS goal, lovely stuff and surely game over? However, some uncharacteristic confusion and the back and some casual passing despite the calls of “GET RID” from the gaffer let JAS back into the game with 2 smart finishes, 2-3 was not how this was supposed to go. As they have done on many occasions this season, GAS showed great character to take back control of the match and 2 fine strikes from the man of the moment, Freeboy, took GAS out of reach again to 5-2.

From here on there was only one winner and although it was clear that the JAS boy head’s were dropping, GAS were playing some fantastic stuff and it wasn’t long before the self proclaimed, and now widely acknowledged, Freeboy, scored his FOURTH goal of the afternoon after a lovely backheel from forward partner Federico. The Argentinian then got the goal his hard work deserved, followed by further strikes from Yan and Julian who made the score quite emphatic at 9-2! That should keep the Goal Difference Statisticians happy!

With 5 minutes to play there was even a chance for a late center forward cameo from Carl ‘raging bull’ Turner who nearly went into the record books for the most fouls in 5 minutes. Still, that epitomized the hunger and fighting spirit of this fine side.

Final score – JAS 2 – 9 GAS

MOM – The man, the myth, the legend… Freeboy!
