After securing the win last time out, GAS place in the top tier for the 2nd half of the season was secured and now it was all about taking 3 points of the leaders and closing the gap to the top teams.

GAS v Planet is one of those games that doesn’t require much of a team talk to gee the boys up but with the opposition boasting the league’s top goal scorer (by quite a distance) it was clearly going to require a strong defensive performance to take home the three points.

GAS started the game on fire and came out of the traps flying with all players flying into tackles and creating a couple of good openings from the off. Within 10 minutes the boys deservedly took the lead and it came through one of the more impressive performers in the opening moments, Tom Murgz, who sweetly passed the ball home first time from outside of the box with the ball nestling just inside the far post. 1-0 and a thoroughly deserved lead.

After going 1-0 down, it would be expected that Planet would step it up and GAS would have to take a bit of pressure from the hosts, however, it was GAS who continued to dominate proceedings and creating a number of good opportunities which should have resulted in at least another goal with just the final touch or ball missing.

GAS did manage to make it 2-0 before the break after a foul on the corner of the box from the Planet midfielder which gave Dom the opportunity to double the lead which he duly took with a fiercely struck shot with took a slight nick off the wall and flew beyond their keeper into the top corner and sent the fans wild!

HT 2 – 0

It was a great first half from GAS, probably the best of the season so far, but everyone knows 2-0 is a dangerous score-line and was important to make a good start and grab the next goal to kill the game off.

It was Planet who were applying most of the pressure now however, really beginning to turn the screw and it took a very solid defensive display from the back four and GK in particular to keep them at bay with their star striker still reduced to a bit-part role in the proceedings.

As the game went into the latter stages it became much more stretched and with Coach Dave able to bring on some (so-called) fresh legs up-front GAS always posed a threat on the break, finally killing the game off after Tom squared the ball across the box and Dominik smashed home to seal a massive 3-0 victory against a team who averaged 6-7 goals a game and rarely concede themselves.

FT: GAS 3 – 0 Planet

This was a massive result for GAS and a massive result for the league, an outstanding team performance from everyone involved with Carl Turner picking up MOM for keeping the leagues top marksman quiet for the first time all season (?)

The next league game sees a reverse of this fixture as GAS travel to Pattaya to face Planet on their own turf so all involved will hope for another strong squad and strong performance in this fixture!
