Yes, they still do exist.
After four (!) months without any sign of life, the Vets finally came together again with a real team, not only three or four players. We even had subs! Some new faces, many guest players, but at least enough people to form a powerful team.
First game against the Japanese clearly resulted in a win for us. Maybe wrong time for a win, because next match against BSL was lost 0:1 and our performance was, let’s say, a bit too much easygoing.
So, we wanted to make it better against the usually last placed Bangkok Immigrants. Shame on us that we didn’t join the previous four or five tournaments, because it seemed that many things and teams changed-so were the Immigrants. A strong squad awaited us and we were quite lucky to draw 1:1 with a goal from Jody. Nevertheless one should mention the three crystal clear penalties not given to us. I don’t know what match the referee observed, maybe the one on the neighboring pitch, but sure not ours.
Only four points with a strong team like that wasn’t enough. The last game in the first round should have been won, but we got terribly beaten 0:2 against Japanese Bears or United or Penguins…one of those anyway.
Two other matches more to play, both against Japanese teams. One was blue and the other yellow. Or green? Or maybe grey. Whatever, we both won them, the first 1:0 (Jody) and the other 2:1 (Jody, Tim and a dream of a self-goal by Torbjoern! So, strictly speaking, they did not score at all, because we made all three of them!)
Ending up on a fifth place from 10 was good enough for us, even enough for another cup on our shelf in the “German Eck”. Beer booth wasn’t open yet when we arrived, as usual.
I guess many of the other participating teams really missed us the previous months. Let’s hope there will be a change in the coming season so that we are able to participate each month again, as it was the case in all the years before.
