Same procedure as every month – it took quite some time to find available players for this month´s tournament. After many mails and calls and thanks to the help of Markus, we managed to have
enough players confirming. Nevertheless due to some last minute cancellations we finally had 9 players available, meaning only two subs. Quite demanding considering our age and weight 🙂
Anyhow – two new players – Robert and Martin showed up perfectly on time and Luis, who used to play for GAS 6 years ago, also made it to the pitch exactly on time. Reiner who played only one time for us also showed up – great. First game vs. our friends Bangkok Immigrants – close game, honestly we played better than them, but…. this is football. One individual mistake lead to their first and only goal and we lost 0:1.
As we never played together with this squad we tried to adjust our tactics and failed badly in the next game vs JFC Penguins – we lost 0:3 and we could be happy that this was the final result.
It could have been much worse. So two more games in the group phase to come – as this was a kind of Japanese Weekend we faced another two teams from Japan. Sriracha Japan who showed up as the strongest team in our group was the first opponent. They had their chances in the beginning but they failed. But we played an amazing disciplined game. Two goals from Martin, disappointed players from our opponents – unbelievable we beat the 2:0 and kept our chances to proceed to the final four. Last game in the group stage vs. JFC Kickers – very hard work. We knew we need to win this game. Winning meant be second in our group – loosing meant we would finish fifth and last – so the pressure was very high. Dirk, who was injured two tournaments ago, showed up as a supporter and we did everything to make him smile. Hard fight, close game – Luis made the only goal of this game – we won 1:0 and made it the final four. Great job Lads !!!!
Semifinal vs Bangkok Refugees – we played them so many times and all games were close. Same as this one. They were confident to win this one, but we played much better in the first minutes. First clear penalty for us was not given by the referee, second one than finally was – unlucky that we could not made this crucial goal attempt. Just a few minutes later the Refugees scored the 1:0 lead. Another penalty shot was awarded to them – but they failed as well. Hard fight from us but finally the Refugees made their second goal. Final result 0:2 – unlucky but deserved.
Last game for the 3rd place vs. BSL. All of us were tired but all of us gave the last to fight and to catch the 3rd place. We did run, we did fight, we tried all we could do – but honestly spoken BSL had the better chances and finally won 1:0.
No worries – we were happy and had our fun as usual. Some beers after the tournament gave us the confidence that we will have our chances again next month.
